Practical Experience Requirement (PER)

The BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting is a joint initiative between ACCA and Oxford Brookes University. The degree program was designed to recognize the quality of the ACCA professional qualification and to provide students with the opportunity to gain an internationally recognized academic qualification.

Eligibility

Students to be eligible to be awarded the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting must:

  • Have opted in to the BSc (Hons) degree scheme
  • Hold a recognised English language qualification certificate and transcript (if applicable), which must be submitted and approved by ACCA, before passing the Financial Reporting (FR), Audit and Assurance (AA) and Financial Management (FM) exams.
  • Pass the Financial Reporting (FR), Audit and Assurance (AA) and Financial Management (FM) exams and complete the other Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams by exam or exemption. Please be aware that students are required to successfully complete all nine Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams at least two months prior to the start of the submission period in which the student is seeking to submit.
  • Complete the ACCA Ethics and Professional Skills module according to the Research and Analysis Project submission dates.
  • Complete and pass the Oxford Brookes Research and Analysis Project (RAP)

If you are exempt from any of the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams based on a qualification more than 10 years old, you would be required to forfeit all of the exemptions in order to opt in to the degree programme.

The degree must be completed within 10 years of the earliest date of your first examination pass or the date of your first ACCA exemption being granted otherwise your eligibility will be withdrawn.

Research and Analysis Project (RAP)

RAP is consisted of two parts:

  • The Research Report (RR): a 7500 word project
  • The Skills and Learning Statement (SLS): 2000 words.

You are required to pay a project submission fee to Oxford Brookes University with any project submission. Please see below for details. This fee is subject to increase in subsequent submission periods

To pass the RAP the student must pass both RR and the SLS. Failure to pass any of the two parts will result to a Fail grade for the RAP. You have a total of three attempts to pass the RAP. After that, you will no longer be eligible to complete the Oxford Brookes BSc degree. If you do not pass both components separately within the same RAP submission period you will be awarded a Fail grade for the Project.

Mentoring

One of the requirements of the Oxford Brookes BSc degree programme is that students must have a Project Mentor to support and guide them as they complete the Research and Analysis Project.

Your Project Mentor is there to support you with the preparation of your Research and Analysis Project, by providing advice and feedback to you at appropriate times during your Project activities. They will also be asked by Oxford Brookes to confirm that they have been your Project Mentor and that your Research and Analysis Project is your own work.

Please note: Mentoring is a service which is provided by a registered mentor, working as your personal contractor. Many mentors charge for providing this service. This charge can be up to 500 GBP.

Deadlines

Oxford Brookes University has two submission periods each year during which you may submit an OBU Research and Analysis Project (RAP). The submission periods are in May and November.

You are required to pay a project submission fee to Oxford Brookes University with any project submission.
