Oxford Brookes Degree

The BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting is a joint initiative between ACCA and Oxford Brookes University. The degree program was designed to recognize the quality of the ACCA professional qualification and to provide students with the opportunity to gain an internationally recognized academic qualification.

Eligibility

Students to be eligible to be awarded the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting must:

  • Have opted in to the BSc (Hons) degree scheme
  • Hold a recognised English language qualification certificate and transcript (if applicable), which must be submitted and approved by ACCA, before passing F7, F8 and F9.
  • Pass the three ACCA Fundamentals papers F7, F8 and F9 and successfully complete all nine Fundamentals level papers.
  • Complete the ACCA Professional Ethics module according to the Research and Analysis Project submission dates.
  • Complete and pass the Oxford Brookes Research and Analysis Project (RAP)

The degree must be completed within 10 years of student’s initial registration date onto the ACCA’s professional qualification otherwise the student will not be eligible to submit the RAP.

Research and Analysis Project (RAP)

RAP is consisted of two parts:

  • The Research Report (RR): a 7500 word project
  • The Skills and Learning Statement (SLS): 2000 words.

The student must attend 3 meetings with his mentor and must deliver a presentation on his findings to his mentor. The mentor must review and sign off the RAP before it is submitted by the student to Oxford Brookes University.

To pass the RAP the student must pass both RR and the SLS. Failure to pass any of the two parts will result to a Fail grade for the RAP. You have a total of three attempts to pass the RAP. After that, you will no longer be eligible to complete the Oxford Brookes BSc degree. If you do not pass both components separately within the same RAP submission period you will be awarded a Fail grade for the Project.

Mentoring

All Project Mentor must successfully complete the approved online Mentoring course and be registered as Approved Mentors for the BSc degree in Applied Accounting on the Oxford Brookes website.

When to obtain the Oxford Brookes degree

Most students who work full-time will require 5-6 months in order to obtain and analyse the data and then prepare the reports, ready for submission. Full-time students will require less.

Many students prefer to wait until they have passed all their ACCA exams before attempting the degree. This route allows them to concentrate completing their ACCA studies first.  In this case the completion of the Oxford Brookes degree can count towards their CPD requirements.

Deadlines

There are several periods and deadlines for completing the Professional Ethics Module and for uploading the RAP to Oxford Brookes University.
